Join us for an introduction to the sewing machine, or if you haven’t sewn in a while, this class acts as a great opportunity to refresh your skills.
In just 3 weeks you’ll sew 3 new projects including: a cushion cover, a zipped makeup bag and a pair of pyjama trousers.
Week 1: first we’ll teach you all the basics of the sewing machine
– threading, winding on bobbin, how to change a needle, functionality and ensure that you feel confident to set up your machine
– Use pattern paper to create your own cushion cover pattern to take home
– sew an envelope cushion cover
Week 2: you will need to bring in 2.5m of non-directional print fabric to sew your pyjama trousers.
– Learn about patterns, how to read & understand a basic pattern
– pinning and cutting techniques
– simple garment construction
– sewing hems & creating a waistband
– inserting elastic into a waistband
You’ll leave with a ready to wear pair of comfy pj bottoms and confidence to sew more at home.
Week 3: this week will focus on zippers
– how to insert and sew a zip
– add pull tabs
– use fusible interfacing and lining
– creating 3D ‘boxing’
– sew a fully lined 3D box pouch
what you need to bring:
you’ll need to bring in :
– half a meter of non directional print cotton fabric for the cushion cover
– half a metre of non directional cotton fabric for the zip pouch
– half a metre of firm fusible interfacing
– 2.5m cotton fabric for the pj’s
– a 14 inch plastic zip
– thread of your choice.

Small group, friendly studio with experienced tutors to help you through each step. Sewing machines and all tools, pattern, elastic and a cushion insert, tea & coffee and notes to take home.

week 2: you will need to bring in 2.5m of non-directional print fabric to sew your pyjama trousers.

– simple garment construction
– creating hems and inserting a waistband
– how to insert elastic into the waistband
You’ll leave with a ready to wear pair of comfy pj trousers and confidence to sew more at home.
week 3: this week will look at zippers
– how to insert them and sew a lined 3D box pouch.
you’ll need to bring in half a meter of non directional print cotton fabric for the outer bag, and half a metre of cotton for the lining (inside the bag) and a 16 inch plastic zip.
